Adebayor completes Spurs switch

Emmanuel Adebayor has made his move to Tottenham permanent

Tottenham have finally completed the permanent signing of Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City.

Spurs had been trying to tie up a deal for Adebayor all summer, with the striker having enjoyed a successful loan spell at White Hart Lane last season.

It had been feared the move might break down over money but both clubs confirmed an agreement had been reached on Tuesday afternoon, while Adebayor himself tweeted: "I'm back!!!! Tottenham here I come!! I'm hungry for goals...Get ready."

Sources close to Tottenham have insisted the club have not broken their wage structure to sign the 28-year-old, who was reportedly on £175,000 a week at City and reluctant to take a big pay cut.

It would seem the hold up was more the result of a dispute between the player and the Barclays Premier League champions over a loyalty bonus pay-off.

Adebayor spent three years at City but fell out of favour upon Robert Mancini's appointment as manager and spent the last year and a half on loan at Real Madrid and Spurs.

Despite having become a hate figure among Tottenham fans because of his days at Arsenal, Adebayor quickly won them over with a string of outstanding displays and finished last season as their top scorer with 18 goals in 37 appearances.

He told the club's official website, www.tottenhamhotspur.com: "I am pleased to be signing for Spurs on a permanent basis after finally agreeing my departure with Manchester City.

"It may have taken longer than expected but I am delighted to be back at Tottenham Hotspur.

"I really enjoyed my time here last season and I am hoping we can achieve great things together again."

well its the end of this protracted saga and maybe he and Spurs will now focus on making AVB's life a little easier by getting some decent results, he is a good signing for Spurs despite his misdemeanours' at City & Arsenal

okay player, if he gets the chances he will score. He hasn't quite been able to complete his strike training to make him as potent as van persie. He should have stayed at arsenal would have been a very good player instead has been here and there.

Adebayor is a great proffessional. He responds well to discipline. AVB won't have any problems getting this bugger to give 100%.

What the heck is going at Spurs why let Dawson go and possibly Danny Rose, yet keep David Bently and Jermaine Jenas, geez not understanding the thinking behind that.

Adebayor, is a great player. If there is a better jumper and header of the ball in the Premiership I  haven't seen him. I wish Andy Carroll had some of Adebayors talent.

If City are paying any part of his wages he should not be allowed to play against them.

This is becoming an increasing story about a player signing on for one club on a basis he and his agent assumed was agreed, only to find later a new manager does not like that player's style. So disputes arise over things like bonus apperances etc. eone when they could have.
