Cardiff change home colours to red

Cardiff will wear red next season

Cardiff City announced on Wednesday that the club will continue with their original rebranding plans, despite having scrapped the project in face of supporter opposition.

Announced alongside news of a financial investment from the club's Malaysian investors, the club statement confirmed that a rebranding will take place that will see the Welsh side take the pitch wearing red next season.

The Bluebird, the iconic image of the club's badge, will remain, but only as a minor component of a new Red Dragon badge - designed to emphasise the Welsh identity of the football club. However, the moves have not proved popular.

When first announced in May, the move met significant opposition among the club's fanbase, with the proposals said to have been scrapped. However, just a month later, the club's owners have said they will press on with the plans.

The club statement read: "Following a comprehensive review of wider supporter feedback via email, letters, media coverage and polls run via the official supporters club and Media Wales and as a consequence of the above commitment, Cardiff City Football Club will also reactivate rebranding proposals with a view to exploiting and maximising its brand and commercial revenues in international markets, which it is hoped in turn will bring success to the club locally, whilst also attracting new partners and investors."

Another foreign owner screwing up a British football club, with total disregard for the club's proud history and the wishes of the club's loyal supporters.

A big slap in the face to all the loyal Cardiff City fans --you cant 'rebrand' a club on the spur of the moment just because you hope to make a few 'shekels' out of it --disgraceful by the owners/board

Once again we see foreign owners who are completely clueless when it comes to owning clubs over here. Cardiff already have a brand which includes blue shirts. Rebranding is all well and good for consumer goods, hoping to attract buyers with a new name or snazzy packaging. But it DOESN'T work with football clubs.

How many red shirts will be on display at their first home game? Just those on the pitch I suspect.

Sarah.

I suspect you have never been to one of Wales Rugby matches at the old Arms Park or the Millenium Stadium? Anyone who has would understand the power of the colour Red, and the potential of the link with the 'Y DDraig Goch'....The Red Dragon, the iconic image central to the Welsh Flag.

It makes all the sense in the world to me, though I am not a Cardiff City fan. The fans are of course will have their own ideas on this.
