Fraizer Campbell has been named in Stuart Pearce's squad to face Netherlands
Fraizer Campbell has earned his first England call-up after being named in Stuart Pearce's squad to face Netherlands next week.
The Sunderland striker has endured a host of injuries since his move from Manchester United in 2009, but has been named as one of five strikers in a youthful 25-man squad for the friendly at Wembley on February 29.
He made just three Premier League starts for the Black Cats last season following a serious knee injury, but has impressed since making his return in January.
United midfielder Tom Cleverley is the only other uncapped player, while there were recalls for Manchester City defender Micah Richards and Robert Green.
Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, back in the England squad for the first time in over a year, is expected to captain the side, but veterans Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard have not been selected.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been in impressive form for Arsenal, but the former Southampton winger misses out on a place, while Gunners team-mate Theo Walcott is in the squad.
England squad to face Netherlands: Scott Carson, Joe Hart, Robert Green; Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Micah Richards, Chris Smalling, Kyle Walker; Gareth Barry, Tom Cleverley, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Adam Johnson, James Milner, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young; Darren Bent, Fraizer Campbell, Daniel Sturridge, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck

Should've got Harry in before Capello. If it wasn't for a court case based on a knob head reporters dodgy kidology phone calls then we would've probably had a manager that could've got the players going. As he's said on numerous occasions it's only 10% tactical and 90% down to the players. look at last tournament and also chelski! bit too much of a coincidence that player power was at a high/ or so they thought. Crap results always follow... That's probably the main real reason to start going with the youth in a big way. As everyone always says, you need a blend of youth AND experience but the old hands are just starting to get past their best and possibly going to be a liability now with terry and rio especially.
Good luck to Pearce, he probably is on for a hiding either way as anyone in the hot seat will be.
Even if we do go with a young side against a good team the media won't think anyone is interested in reading something positive, win, lose or draw! so they'll probably think of some crap to write and half the mugs that read it will probably buy into it! The joys of the GREAT BRITISH MEDIA! If it isn't positive, they don't think it's news worthy.
Enloy the game!!!
@ MICHAEL
that one buddy, go tel ya lies elsewhere, no need to belitle you, you manage that by yourself
you really are a sad git with nothing better to do!!!

Using Germany's formation, a starting 11 something like this for the summer seemed the best option, get rid of all the disruptive players (Terry, Ashley Cole, Rooney) and tell the media to **** off. If we have a regular starting line-up it could install some pride and continuity that England need at the moment.
Playing Gerrard (who was one of the only players who actually played well at the World Cup for us) in his position, and let the players just do whatever they want, play to their strengths.
Cahill - useless, been out performed by Steven Taylor by a mile this season
Jones - see above
Rooney - never done it for England and never will
We need to stop hyping players like Campbell, Smalling, Cleverley and Welbeck up and actually look at who can do it for England. Maybe one day one of these players might be able to do it for England, but they're so far off it now.
