Hodgson left to sweat on fitness of Cahill and Terry

Gary Cahill recoils after colliding with Joe Hart, England v Belgium, International friendly, Wembley Stadium, June 2, 2012

Roy Hodgson has fears over Gary Cahill and John Terry

England manager Roy Hodgson is waiting anxiously on the result of scans on Gary Cahill and John Terry after both came off during the Three Lions' win over Belgium on Saturday.

England won 1-0 at Wembley thanks to Danny Welbeck's clinical first-half finish, but another confidence-boosting win for Hodgson's men was soured to a certain extent by a worrying injury to Cahill - who was forced off with a suspected jaw injury after being pushed into goalkeeper Joe Hart by Belgium forward Dries Mertens.

Hodgson is hopeful the Chelsea defender is not seriously injured but, after already seeing Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry ruled out of the European Championship at a late stage, admitted that he was fearful of a third blow.

"Cahill is a slightly bigger concern for me," Hodgson told ITV. "It is a jaw injury, but we are desperately hoping the CT scan does not show a fracture, and it will just be a bruising situation - which will be bad enough but won't stop him playing at the tournament."

He subsequently added: "If he has fractured his jaw, which is a distinct possibility, then we lose another player."

John Terry also came off before the final whistle after feeling a slight tweak to his hamstring, but Hodgson was confident he will not be in any danger of missing England's opening group match against France in just over a week.

The Chelsea captain will nevertheless have the injury scanned, however.

"Again, it wasn't a major problem when he came off," Hodgson said. "But we still have to scan it to be 100 per cent sure."

The former West Brom was nevertheless pleased with the result, forgiving the sometimes stunted nature of the display after making a number of substitutions throughout.

"I'm very pleased, it's been a hard week," Hodgson noted. "There was a lot of disruption in the second half, some forced upon us, some we wanted to do.

"It was a very good Belgium side - arguably stronger than Norway."

Lets be honest, England alway stutter before they start playing good football, they just got to get out of the group, as for Terry, he is quality as a footballer, probably wont make it to the end because of injuries, but as a human being he shows no consideration for people around him and lives in the Dark ages

wouldn't it be ironic if terry was unable to play the euros and then hodgson had the cheek to ask (beg) rio ferdinand to step into the breach. If I were Rio, I'd tell hodgson to get stuffed.

Zulu579, you seem paranoid about Terry and other players wives. Fact, he is supposed to have had sex with one players ex girlfriend. Fact, she denied it happened. Fact, Rooney went with a prostitute and put his wifes health in danger. Fact, Giggs had sex with his brothers wife, but you never seem to mention these events. Wonder why?Or you just  all the other Cheldea haters. One more question, why have you change your name from Danny Clarke?

JT always gives 100%. Ashley Yoyng was rubbish. All the snide remarks on JT makes you wonder if the people on here are English or what. JT for the captain again.
