Koscielny pegs back City

Laurent Koscielny, right, celebrates scoring Arsenal's equaliser

Laurent Koscielny earned Arsenal a deserved 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium with a late equaliser as Manchester City's stuttering start to the season continued.

The Gunners had much the better of the first half but could not make their dominance count and Joleon Lescott headed the hosts in front from a 40th-minute corner.

That looked like being the way it would stay as Arsenal struggled to find a way to goal, but Koscielny proved the unlikely hero with an unstoppable shot eight minutes from time.

The Gunners were taking on their opponents with real pace and in the 24th minute Carl Jenkinson did well down the right and pulled the ball back to Lukas Podolski, who skied his shot well over the bar.

Gervinho then fired just wide with a shot that rippled the side-netting and drew cheers from the section of Arsenal fans down the other end who thought it had sneaked in.

Still they had not really tested Joe Hart, though, and they were made to pay in the 40th minute when Lescott headed in David Silva's corner.

City could even have been two ahead at the break but Vito Mannone partially redeemed himself for his error on the opening goal with a fingertip save from Edin Dzeko's curling shot.

Arsenal were still passing the ball around neatly without really looking like scoring, and Gervinho's radar was off target again as he blasted high and wide in the 66th minute.

Arsenal were pressing hard but City almost killed the game off on the break in the 80th minute, Yaya Toure playing in Sergio Aguero for a shot that was smartly stopped by Mannone.

That proved to be a crucial moment as Arsenal went up the other end and Santi Cazorla drew the first real save out of Hart with a fine shot from the edge of the box. The Spaniard took the resulting corner and Lescott could only divert the ball to the feet of Koscielny, who smashed the ball into the top corner.

Its amazing every year  wenger gets rid of his best players and people say its time for him to go.

Yet he some how manages to keep finding new players that step up to the mark. If anything arsenal look stronger this year than last and thats without van persie. its makes you wonder what he would do with united or cities money.

People who say he should go just dont understand the logistics of football he is a genius.

If he ever leaves arsenal people will realise just how good he was and not just arsenal fans

Once again you stumble at the hands of the mighty gunners,  Writing off Arsenal already!?  One league win and you're the great team city!?  Half a billion plus and 7th place?  Pathetic,  Any real top team that had spent that kind of money and given the perfmance game after game city have,  Well the board would be protesting for hanging to be brought back.  Better team than Arsenal my big toe!!!  Go back to sleep for another 44 years

That's two wins and three draws with only 2 goals conceded. I'd have taken that at the beginning of the season. Cummon you Gunners!

Sloppy defending for City's goal but overall another great performance & a well deserved draw. If Gervinho had played as in the earlier games it would have been all 3 points.

COYG's

p.s. Solid performance from "Motorcycle" in the centre of the defense more of the same please!!

A deserved draw????? who ever wrote that wasnt watching a one sided game. Arsenal were man for man better than anything City had, we out played them in every position, with out doubt 2 points dropped by Arsenal and a point gained by lucky City

Mancini has got it all wrong. He stuck too many newcomers in. We were lucky to get a draw. Well played Gunners.

Great result for the Gunners playing away, a deserved point. Looks like you could use a striker though, Gervinho looks a bit hit n miss. United played rubbish and take 3points, Arsenal play well and take 1, Football, bloody hell. United really need to improve their passing game and their 'urgency', too many times we're second to the ball. We can only be lucky for so long, when our luck runs out we need to be better. Unlucky Liverpool. Great day of football.

Is there anybody out there that can see real class?, Wenger/Arsenal/Bould et-al, or would you prefer Tony Pulis ha ha ha!!

Well played arsenal we deserved at least a point and maybe more. Nice to see Ramsey playing as a team player rather than a one man give the ball away show. Gervihno however is becoming a liability  (mind you I did say that about Kanu and he did have his moments.. though few and far between).

All in all a strong performance and  I for one am optimistic about the current squad.

arsenal were easily the better team today, a draw was the least they deserved.  but i wouldnt right city off just yet, once they get into the groove things will go there way again.  seeing man u fans mocking is amusing , they were extremely lucky today due to bad ref,  he dosnt give pool a pen because suarez went down easy, but gives manu one for a pretty much identical thing.

It must be getting near the time for Mancenile to get the push you cant spend half a billion in 2 years and not be top of the table or thereabouts.
