Liverpool complete Allen signing

Joe Allen will team up with his former boss Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool

Joe Allen will team up with his former boss Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Swansea midfielder Joe Allen.

The midfielder was at Anfield on Thursday night to watch the Reds' 3-0 Europa League third qualifying round second leg win over FC Gomel. And, after Reds manager Brendan Rodgers revealed the move was "imminent", the 22-year-old has now passed a medical to seal his switch to the Merseyside giants.

Allen told his new club's official website, www.liverpoolfc.com: "I feel incredible. Everyone knows the history of this club, it's a massive club, and I'm delighted to have joined."

He added: "The passion that people here have for football is something I share and I want to be part of that.

"I'm looking forward to being part of some great years ahead for Liverpool."

Rodgers said: "I'm absolutely delighted Joe has made the decision to come with us on this journey.

"He is a player whose profile will fit perfectly with the ideas of this group.

"His ability to control and dominate the ball is an important ingredient in our attempt to gain success on the field.

"Joe has had a fantastic education at Swansea and will now begin the next chapter in his exciting career, and I wish him all the very best in what I'm sure will be a long and distinguished career here at Liverpool."

Another potential good signing. BR is clearly laying some young foundations to which he can build the team around. Stevie G, Carra and the likes of those are not going to be around forever.

Give the manager a chance and all will come good.

Joe Allen is no "average" player as some have suggested.  He is a talented footballer with a great passion for the game.  Liverpool are lucky to have him!

The Brienator: I agree with most of your points particularly on Henderson.

However, Rogers has a way of playing football that most neutral observers admired last season and Joe Allen was integral to that. He has an ability to take the ball under pressure, then keep and distribute it. Unlike Charlie Adam, he can get around the pitch quickly and use the ball simply rather than look for the Hollywood Pass.

I'd have thought it is good to have someone who already knows the new managers philosophy and has thrived under it? Also, of all the players he could have gone back for he chose Allen. That should say something.

Just my opinion. You could be right and he turns out to be terrible at LFC as some players are when going to a big club.

Hes young and talented. Time will tell if he cuts it. No good comes out of a mystic meg moment, gazing through your crystal ball or knocking the young lad or the club he now represents.
Good luck kiddo.

Brendan Rodgers is no mug, he's worked with Allen for a few seasons now and knows what the lad can do. The lad has got a bright future ahead of him and although he has only one years experience in the prem, his performances for Swansea and team GB show he can apply his trade at this level and only get better.

My god you Liverpool fans, can you do nothing but moan? Why not give Allen a chance? He could be a much better signing than Adams or Henderson.

Rogers looks to be  building a squad that understands his methods by putting in players he knows in key positions. He's not going to replicate AvB's Chelsea problems of  dealing with a squad he's had no part in creating. And it seems probable that  the owners are using  the same methods of squad building  as they did successfully at Boston. [Do watch " Money Ball" if you've not seen it.]

And if the result is  the 'Pool play the same style of football as Swansea  did last year, but with a stronger  team, it would be football I'll enjoy watching, providing City at least match them  when we're playing each other!

To those who complain tha LFC have signed a 2nd rate player from a second rate team, think back. Leeds took Archie Gemmal from Preston for peanuts and he was one of the greats for Leeds and for Scotland. Kevin Keagan was a simular tale as were many more of our big name players. Why not wait and see before jumping in feet first to criticise

Give joe allen a chance I hope it works out for him I also think Andy Carroll needs this season as well after all he had a good 5-6 weeks of the last season and a good euro championships I think he could go from strength to sttrength

ian vincent, 30yrs ago Liverpool bought unknown players from lower divisions and turned them into top players. The likes of Toshack, Keegan, Hansen Rush and many more. The number of foreign players in  the PL, how many are worldclass?
