Roberto Mancini has spent around £240 million on players since arriving at City
Roberto Mancini admits his future could be in doubt if he fails to break Manchester City's Premier League title drought this season.
Mancini's men previously held a five-point lead over Manchester United before a month-long slump saw City slip five points behind their fierce rivals with seven games remaining. The Italian knows from his experience at Inter Milan that the security of his position may be scrutinised by club hierachy if he fails to deliver this term.
"I know football very well," he said. "I left Inter after winning seven trophies and I still had a four-year contract. So in football anything can happen in any moment. Like the title race, things can change in one week.
"It's the same regarding my future. When you choose this job you know anything can happen. I don't have a problem with this because when you work hard for your job and improve your team, that's the important thing."
Mancini says he is focused on the team's goals rather than his own issues and that chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak remains fully supportive as the club aims to win its first league crown in 44 years.
"I have one year left on my contract," said Mancini. "I started this job two-and-a-half years ago and since then we have improved a lot as a team, as players and as a club.
"This is important when you have a new team. I've been in this world a long time and I know that you can lose this title (job). But what's important to me is that the squad has improved a lot over the last two years.
"I think we're progressing, but I don't decide (my future). I do the best in my job and after I don't decide the situation.
"My relationship with Khaldoon is fantastic. Even if he sacked me at the end of the season or next year, I would say that any manager who works with him is very lucky. He's a really good man. This doesn't change my opinion about him or the club. But I don't have this problem because I will continue in my job.
"I'm sure that this club has arrived at the top. With two or three more players after this year, the club will start to win, and then it will win two or three trophies every year."

I for one am not a Man U fan but I have to agree with Steve Hughes on this one. whats with all the bacon face jibes about SAF and your idiotic attempt to ridicule Chantelle describing her as a northern monkey, I am a northerner myself but live in the south of the country so find the northern monkey jibe a tad offensive.
so please explain to me your perception of a what a northern monkey is.
Back to the footy, I don't think Mancini has anything to worry about personally, he has done a good job although he has spent millions upon millions to to get where they are, if he is given another season then I think he will be really breathing down SAF's neck for the Prem title, but then again SAF has proved time and again that he can slap down any upstarts that challenge him for the prem crown.
Mancini will be fine, all he needs to do is work out why SAF has been and still is the best manager this sceptre Isle has ever produced.
In my opinion that is a total disrespect for the other 19 clubs, thinking that they expect to win the title, when they haven't won it for 44 years.
Fergie took 5 years to make an impact,so honour Mancini's contract and then decide. Its not that long ago that City fans would have sold their souls for a 2nd place and Champions League football.
Well from my calculations you have 4 players from us now, Clichy, nasri, toure and adabyour which you can have,
And why you trying to compare mancini to wenger!? are you mad!
And yur trying to compare manu's spending in the premiership to city's you make me laugh.... Manu EARNED their money, Let me explain something to you, A buyout is when someone comes along and give you lots of transfer money...Earning money is through skilful profit, On what planet did city make skilful profit????? Oh i see never...
Don't mistake money for skill and don't try to justify a buyout as a right to win the premiership.. it's pathetic, You bought your way to 2nd place full stop, you would have NEVER got there without that massive buyout, so the only person you are fooling is yourself
And I will tell you why Chantell gets the thumbs ups and you get ridiculed......its because she tells the truth and your just a lying southern softy!! Old bacon face? Manure? Grow up you numpty.
You have no idea at all how United will do without saf...non at all...FACT.
United bribe refs? Poof!! Put up or shut up saddo.
UNITED....NOT ARROGANT....JUST BETTER
Fly by night 2nd place, You have nothing on arsenal or manu, and never will
I rate Mancini as a manager and a person. He comes over well on interview and if our noisy neighbours are foolish to not renew his contract wether he wins the prem or not they will once again as there past dictates be going backwards .So give the bloke another contract otherwise you will become a laughing stock once again and another club who yoyos managers.Stability wins everytime and will always win.
A Very Proud Englishman
