Rangers will play in division SFL decide
SPL clubs vote to reject Rangers' newco application
Newco Rangers chief executive Charles Green has vowed that the club will play in whichever division the Scottish Football League deem fit.
Clydesdale Bank Premier League clubs have voted to reject the newco Rangers application with the SPL announcing the news in a brief statement after more than five hours of talks at Hampden.
Green's Rangers are now waiting on further meetings between SFL clubs to see whether they will be entered into the Irn-Bru First Division or start out from the bottom tier.
It was largely expected that Wednesday's vote would be against Rangers playing top flight football next season, but there was also a chance it could be deferred until the SFL had made a decision on where to place the newco club within their structure. But the decision has now been made and Green revealed his disappointment on the application being turned down.
"We are deeply disappointed that our application to rejoin the SPL has been rejected overwhelmingly by the member clubs," he said in a statement. "This time last week, all of us at Rangers were resigned to the fact that we would not be admitted, due mainly to the public declarations of clubs indicating they would not support our application.
"At the weekend, we were approached by representatives from the SPL suggesting our application still stood a chance of success and we should discuss this further with clubs. This we did in good faith but with the knowledge of the hurdles that lay ahead of us.
"We had asked the SPL whether it would be more appropriate for us to withdraw our application but were advised against this."
Green also revealed the new club had been preparing to apply to the SFL for a couple of weeks and stated the newco Rangers would play in the appropriate division. "We will now proceed as we had planned from late June to apply for membership of the SFL," he said.
"It is entirely a matter for them whether our application will be accepted or rejected and we will make no representation to any member club prior to that application being considered. We also recognise that the SPL has been placed in a difficult position because of the way events have unfolded.
"If our application were to be accepted, Rangers will play in whichever division the SFL sees fit and we will move forward from there. The club hopes that the supporters, who have been absolutely tremendous since the club went into administration on February 14, will continue to support the club and make Rangers a success once again."

the board , the owners and anyone else involved in this should be banned for life over this never to run or buy a football club again, it shows the sheer arrogance of these people to think they can buy a club run it into the ground then walk away,with no care about what happens to the backroom staff players or fans, its not the players fault, its not backroom staffs fault and its not the fans fault, the blame lies with the money men. i agree with rangers playing in a lower division, but worry about the loss of income to smaller clubs, who rely on gate money when going to ibrox, , the sfa will have to devise a plan to stop smaller clubs being hit hard

You seem intent of painting Celtic supporters as being saints but nothing could be further from the truth. They might get invites for friendlies but they dont get invites to join the FA. Could that be because english teams and more so the supporters are well aware of Celtic supporters support of the IRA and continued support by sections of the current support for the REAL IRA. I have respect for most Celtic supporters but people like you just drag them down with bigoted comments.
I now fear for the future of many small teams in the SPL who rely on the gate money they receive when playing rangers and celic several time a season. All the Celtic fans who are gloating at the moment will live to regret whats happened to their biggest rivals. No more will you wake up on a saturday morning with butterfly's in your stomach at the thought of an old firm lunch time kick off. No more will you be able to go to work early on a monday morning to rib work mates after a derby victory. It may seem great at the moment but as a Newcastle fan I hated it when Sunderland weren't in the same league as us. Mark my words scottish football will suffer in the coming seasons.

The SPL is a joke now! What with it's playing each other 3 time to make the number up to compete a season. A joke when the same two clubs nigh dominate year in and year out. Now you want the SPL to be even a bigger laughing stock so you can either be a Celtic supporter gleefully beating nothings and no ones, or a side that may now get to be in the top 3 or 4, Get real and act sharp.
a back ward step that will have even more disastrous effects and lowering the poor standard of the Scottish SPL.
Go and buy a none league english club and they would now just about dominate the scottish football. Sad joke. Oh to be a Scot eh!

Regarding those at the top of Rangers,they were not the ones who put it into the mess,but,if those who just want to throw abuse and dont want Scottish Football to go forward then keep shouting.
The looser in all of this is the FANS not just of Rangers but all the other clubs,
The Newco will go where they are placed,the revenue will drop for those clubs in the SPL,the damage done hopefully will be able to be reactified.
But,may i say again,those in charge of Rangers now,did not cause the mess,and instead of shouting about bigots take a long hard look at how Scottish Football is run by the SPL and the SFA,They do not fill you with confidence.

todays decision is what they expected and they had planned for it

they will sell ibrox, murray park and the other property that 'rangers' owned
