Reds snap up Sahin

Nuri Sahin has joined Liverpool on loan

Nuri Sahin has joined Liverpool on loan

Liverpool have confirmed they have reached an agreement to sign Real Madrid playmaker Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan deal.

The Reds saw off competition from Arsenal for the Turkey international, who helped Madrid win the Primera Division title last season.

A statement on www.liverpoolfc.com read: "The 23-year-old will now undergo a medical on Merseyside."

Sahin will be the fourth new arrival at Anfield following Joe Allen, Fabio Borini and Oussama Assaidi.

The midfielder joined Madrid last summer after catching the eye during a successful spell with Borussia Dortmund, with whom he won the Bundesliga title in 2010/11.

Sahin has also won 31 caps with Turkey, scoring his first national goal aged just 17 against Germany in 2005.

@Tim Adams

why all the negativity?, we are one game into the new season so its a bit premature to have your doom and gloom opnion before the season has had a few weeks to shape up.

Ok we were poor against WBA but we are no worse off than Man U, Spurs or any other team that didnt win their opening match. we have a tough one tomorrow but last season we did well against City so we cannot be discounted for tomorrows game.

Have a bit of faith, and if we are struggling come the end of this year the you can bleat as much as you like, until then lets get behind the team, I will be there tomorrow will you?

I'm sorry, but why are some Liverpool fans moaning about Rodgers already? I'm not a Liverpool fan, but come on, give the guy a break. You've played one game, and already some "fans" (I use that term very loosely) are calling for his head. How exactly is your club going to recover if you can't even back your manager for more than one league game?

Liverpool have done very well to snap up Sahin. Anybody who doubts this guy's ability obviously wasn't watching the Bundesliga two seasons ago. He's too good to be rotting on the Madrid bench. It's a great signing for Liverpool, however if I was a Liverpool fan, I'd probably be more concerned about bringing in another striker!

This could be good news, Sahin is a quality player, and my goodness do we need some quality players at Anfield.

good signing for Liverpool but we have too many midfielders AND DO NEED A PROVEN GOALSCORER to put chances away

BUT YOU CANNOT EXPECT MIRACLES AFTER JUST ONE PREMIERSHIP MATCH SO I BELIEVE WE SHOULD GIVE BRENDON ROGERS EVERY CHANCE TO IMPLEMENT HIS STYLE OF PLAY

ONE THING IS CERTAIN  IT WILL NOT HAPPEN OVERNIGHT

I haven't seen the lad play, but I'm very optimistic about what Brendan Rodgers is doing; the fans should begin thinking progressively too. I watched the Hearts game in midweek and can see what Rodgers is doing in terms of the type of football he wants the team to play. It's in its infancy and the potential is exciting. The football will evolve. I envisage a team that it will be hard for other teams to get the ball from as they play patient possession football. Upfront there is speed and guile; the young lad Sterling is such an eciting prospect who will with experience and increasing maturity destroy defences; watch this space. The team have had lots of 'bad luck' last season and a little this season, but that won't last for long; everything will eventually fit into place. Rodgers knows what he is doing, so lets all unite behind him all you Reds fans.

This is fantastic this guy is phenomenal hes a cross between Platini and Zidane,he single handedly took Dortmund to the bundesliga title in 2011 winning German player of the year. For LFC to attract such a world superstar fending off competition from every other major club in europe shows our standing in world football as one of the 3 most famous and successful clubs of alltime is still intact.

lol all these bitter gooners  making up numbers, yesterday it was a £12m loan fee now it's £5m. £6.2m in wages lol he doesn't even earn that at real madrid and we're only paying about 80-90% of them. Plus we have an option to buy for £14m at the end of the loan.

good passing, reliable shot and a good positioning. Liverpool will benefit from him as he gives options.

This is an excellent interim signing for LFC. There is no value in this transfer window, given the gross inflation of potential fees; also, top quality targets are unlikely to be secured this late in the window without paying a very high premium. As a loan solution, Sahin is ideal. Best player in the Bundesliga last year, out-polling his Dortmund team mate Kagawa, he has the potential to be one of the best players in Europe, hence Mourinho's refusal to sanction a clause to buy at the end of the loan deal. Wenger desperately wanted this guy, but wasn't satisified with a loan-only arrangement.

Thought Arsenal had lost out. Won't be the end of Gerrard... you wish.

Jordon to live upto his promise this season. All will improve of course without Daglishes limited ability. So has to be another good signing. Upto Now Arsenal are number in the transfers this season so far. And Liverpool have been shrew.
