Sunderland sign Johnson

Adam Johnson has left Manchester City to link up with Sunderland

Adam Johnson has left Manchester City to link up with Sunderland

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has completed a sensational deal to land Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.

The England international has signed a four-year contract after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

O'Neill has been on the Easington-born midfielder's trail for several weeks after it became apparent that his days at the Etihad Stadium were drawing to a close, and his arrival on Wearside just hours after Wolves striker Steven Fletcher capped a good day for the Ulsterman.

A delighted O'Neill said: "Adding quality players to the squad has been our main aim this summer and Adam certainly fits that bill.

"He has terrific ability, great delivery and I'm sure he is a player who will excite our fans. I couldn't be more delighted to have him at the football club."

Johnson, 25, is a product of Middlesbrough's Academy and has won 12 full England caps to date.

However, he missed out on a trip to Euro 2012 and will hope his latest move could help to revive his international career.

Johnson played 96 times for first club Middlesbrough, scoring 13 goals, before he moved on to City in 2010.

But after 73 games, which produced 11 goals, he has now moved to Sunderland.

There is only one thing more shocking than City selling him and thats no bigger club than Sunderland coming in for him. At least he will get more games no, valuable experience for him but he could do with playing in Europe.

Well I'm shocked that he's gone there, i hope he doesn't regret it. But at least he will get some games under his belt.

But why none of the top 6 clubs didn't come in for him i don't know.

Superb player adds a different dimension to any teams attacking play! Very under-rated especially by England...this lad is real class....but do we ever give the real talent the stage to strut thier stuff?
Or have you to be the Mundane and just hard working? as this seems to be what  the talentless Managers we have had in the past prefer!Players with flair and great ability are the ones who are blamed when the game plan goes wrong..usually due to the inept ability of the lesser talented players....but they may have worked hard!!! so they are left in the side, when any one with a shred of football knowledge would do differently.Last game against ITALY the midfield were terrific,l would like to see the stats on how many chances were created by that midfield against the stats when we played ITALY in the Euro's!!

This is a very bad move for Johnson because he will be playing with a lot of ordinary players and will learn little from them. A move to Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs or United would have been a better prospect for this highly promising youngster. All the previously mentioned teams have some superb players who Johnson could have improved himself as a player, by playing with those players.

It's nothing to do with his ability, it's his attitude that's cost him greatness at City.  Good luck AJ but don.t score against City.

He can go and display his one-trick with the Black Cats now. Hope he scores against City.

There goes his England career.  Should've gone to one of the Big 4 (outside Manchester City).
