Who is Les Davies?
Bangor City's Les Davies was yesterday named in a 32-man shortlist for Uefa's Best Player in Europe Award alongside Messi and Ronaldo. We take a look at the Welsh striker:
Name: Leslie 'Les' Davies
Position: Centre forward
Weight: 17 stone
Nicknamed 'The Truck', Les Davies is a solid old-fashioned centre-forward who used to be in the Wales under 21 squad and has represented his country at Semi-Pro level.
His strong work rate has made him a hero amongst the Bangor fans and his second-coming to the club has marked the start of a stellar period for City, seeing them win three Welsh Cups and the League for the first time in 18 years.
He loves to go for goal from any position and is the best header of the ball in the league - fans will remember the 2009 Welsh Cup final when he headed home the opening goal from a narrow angle over the outstretched arms of the keeper.
He loves the 'rough and tumble' of the game and is not afraid to get back and tackle when required. He is a rough diamond, but manager Neville Powell is managing to polish off some of the edges and his skill level is rising.
And he seems to be getting better with age in front of goal too. Last season he scored 19 goals, ahead of his previous average of 10.
He has been the supporters' Player of the Season for the last two years and was voted into the team of the season by the managers in the Welsh Premier League last season.
A factory apprentice by day, Les's character seems to be a driving force for the whole club and he would be a serious loss to this improving team.
However the big boys of Europe probably aren't going to come calling quite yet.
