Wilshere 'shocked' to see Capello quit

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has expressed his disappointment at Fabio Capello's decision to resign as England manager.

Capello stepped down as Three Lions manager with immediate effect on Wednesday, after disagreeing with the Football Association over the decision to strip Chelsea defender John Terry of the England captaincy.

And Wilshere, who was handed his first cap by the Italian, was one of the first players to reveal his disappointment at the turn of events.

"Shocked about news on Fabio Capello ... gutted to be honest, gave me my 1st cap and believed in me! Thank you Mr Capello! #GreatManager," Wilshere posted on Twitter.

"People have there [sic] own judgement on Capello but for a young player who was given the chance to play for my country at such a young age...

"He has shown great belief and trust in me so I can only thank him....massive influence on my career so far! Sad to see him go!"

Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker reiterated Wilshere's comments, adding: "Gutted to see Fabio Capello go he put a lot of trust in me and gave me my first cap just want to say a big thanks really.."

Walker's club manager, Harry Redknapp, has already been tipped as the man to replace Capello, but Scotland boss Craig Levein believes it will prove impossible for Redknapp to divide his time between club and country.

Scotland boss Craig Levein feels it may not be feasible for Redknapp to take on the national job in addition to his club duties.

Levein told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I think it's extremely difficult. I believe England have got a great opportunity in the summer going to the Euro finals.

"It might be very difficult for a manager to stay at his club and devote the time that's needed to do the England manager's job. I don't know what the FA will decide is best way forward."
