Douglas set to miss Games
Nathan Douglas picked up an injury in his first competition of the year last month
Great Britain Triple jumper Nathan Douglas has admitted he will almost certainly miss the Olympics through injury.
The 29-year-old, a former European silver medallist, got injured in his first competition of the year in Hengelo, Holland, last month. He revealed on Wednesday he will miss this weekend's trials and, in all likelihood, the summer showpiece.
"Having picked up an injury in my first competition this year in Hengelo (27th May), I have been forced to accept the painful reality that I am unable to compete at this weekend's Aviva 2012 Trials and accept the fact that I will be unlikely to compete at the Olympic Games later this year," Douglas said on his official website.
"Having been in great shape coming off my winter training, the cruel reality is that I picked up an injury in my first competition in 20 months, making recovery in time for the London Olympics unlikely."
Douglas missed most of last season after rupturing ankle ligaments in a freak training accident.
He sustained the injury by putting his foot through a plyometric box, a piece of equipment used for jump training.
