Brazil's men's volleyball team have dominated the sport for the last decade and while some of the star players have recently retired, veteran Giba leads a new generation of young stars.

Despite not being the tallest on court, his speed and agility have helped him to become one of the best outside hitters in the world.

After finishing only sixth at the Olympics in 2000, Brazil won gold in 2004 and Giba was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament in Athens.

Brazil lost in the final to the USA at Beijing 2008, but away from the Olympics Giba led the national team to three consecutive gold medals at the World Championships in 2002, 2006 and 2010.

He is also a multiple winner of the World League.
