Murray powers to gold medal glory
British number one Andy Murray claimed the biggest title of his tennis career as he comprehensively outplayed the legendary Roger Federer to take Olympic gold.
At two games all in the first set things seemed to be going to the script of a tight match with the world number one and recent Wimbledon champion overcoming his British opponent for the second time on centre court in exactly four weeks.
Murray, however, had other plans and reeled off an incredible ten straight games to take that first set 6-2 and open up a 5-0 lead in the second.
With union flags fluttering all across the crowd the Suisse had no answer for Murray’s more aggressive play and lost his serve at 2-2 in the third set to succumb to a 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 loss after an epic battle on Murray’s serve in the third game of the second set.
The Scotsman then served out his last three games to round off a memorable victory.
Murray has the chance of a double gold for Team GB today as he partners Laura Robson against Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi from Belarus at 4pm.
Andy. you played a fantastic game. A Gold medal well deserved!!!
My husband said "Some idiot will accuse Federer of throwing the match" These men are ALWAYS there to win

To all the haters, for goodness sake, for your own dignity try to grow up.
Murray won, simple as that. Nothing to do with whether he's a Scot or not.
He's shy, so what; he's a tennis player not an Orator.
Well done Andy ... you did everyone proud.
Why can't you miserable lot just be happy for Andy Murray. We don't need to read your snide comments about the Murray family............... they have nothing to do with todays results and they certainly have nothing to do with sport or the spirit of the Olympic games.
Congratulations to all Olympians.
I am so so proud of you Andy. Although beaten by your opponent less than 2 weeks ago you showed true grit and courage to come back in the Olympics and beat him soundly. And lets face it Wimbledon is every year. Olympics? most get only 1 chance and you did it. god Bless
Well done Andy you've done us all proud and hopefully you can do it again later tonight
