Elizabeth Armitstead has won Team GB's first medal of the 2012 Olympics, claiming silver in the women's cycling road race.

Lizzie ArmitsteadBattling it out on the rain-soaked streets of London, Armitstead rode a fantastic race to cross the line behind Marianne Vos.

"I'm a bit shocked... I'm so happy it came off," a breathless Armitstead said afterwards, crediting her decision to go with the early breakaway.

Bronze was taken by Russian Olga Zabelinskaya who was the third member of a breakaway group that held off the chasing pack for the final hour of the race.

"Lizzie did a really good job in the break and she also had a good sprint but I'm really happy with the win," said Vos

If I were to write something not regarded as pc MSN would have it deleted in seconds yet these obnoxious ads for dating sites etc appear under every thread. I am beginning to think that MSN IS getting paid for allowing these to stay.

The image isn't even sharp. Must have used anything but a Nikon I suppose, or just not too good a photographer in wet weather.
