Rachel Cawthorn won her heat in the women's single kayak
Britain's Rachel Cawthorn looked in impressive form as she won her heat in the women's single kayak in the canoe sprint.
Cawthorn, 23, from Guildford, Surrey, clocked a time of 1.53.49 seconds as she dominated her race from start to finish.
The former European champion had said she was concentrating on the women's K4 event but will be in with a chance of a medal if she qualifies from the semi-final later on Tuesday.
In the women's K2 500 metres, Abigail Edmonds and Louisa Sawers finished in fifth spot, just enough to qualify for the semi-finals.
