Team GB Shooter Peter Wilson remains on course for a place in this afternoon's final of the double trap.

Wilson, 25, from Dorset, followed up his 48 points out of 50 from the first qualifying round with another 48 for a total of 96 to lead the field by two.

The world record holder and world number two has one more round to negotiate, with the top six going through to the final, where his qualifying score will form part of his total score.

The seventh-placed shooter, Francesco D'Aniello of Italy, is four points behind the Brit.

Wilson is among the favourites for gold and is looking to win Britain's first shooting medal since Richard Faulds topped the podium in Sydney 12 years ago.

Faulds, at 35 and competing in his fifth Olympics, lies 18th after improving on his first-round 39 by shooting 46 second time round.

Many of the competitors seemed to be struggling with the occasional gusts of wind, with world number one Josh Richmond of the USA managing 44 and 42 for a total of 86, leaving him 17th.
