Earls Court is one of Britain's most well-known exhibition centres and at London 2012 the venue once again plays host to Olympic action. The last time that the Games came to London, in 1948, Earls Court staged the boxing, weightlifting, gymnastics and wrestling competitions. Fast-forward 64 years and the west London arena is the setting for the men's and women's volleyball tournaments. Having first opened its doors in 1937, the venue has hosted countless music concerts, featuring the likes of Queen and the Rolling Stones. Designed by American architect C. Howard Crane, Earls Court is situated close to London's museum quarter, including the Victoria and Albert, Science and Natural History Museums.
